Canoeing and Kayaking on the River Fowey

A Car Free Day Out around St Austell EA06

The River Fowey is a fabulous location for canoeing and kayaking, with fabulous scenery and wildlife. The river is fringed by wooded slopes and water meadows, owned mostly by the National Trust. The riverbank was the inspiration behind Kenneth Graham’s The Wind in the Willows. While gently paddling along the river you are likely to see herons, egrets, cormorants and if you are lucky, kingfishers and even otters. The villages of Golant and Lerryn make perfect stop-off points for a delicious pub lunch or picnic.

For the experienced canoeist, half or full day independent hire is available, and for those less so, there are accompanied expeditions and taster sessions. Whichever you choose it is a fabulous way to spend a day and suitable for all – the kayaks are stable and either single or double, Guided trips are accompanied by a safety boat and those who choose to paddle independently are provided with all the necessary maps and safety equipment.
