Why save Water?
Being water efficient leads to a reduction in carbon, energy and utility costs. In order to pump water from our reservoirs, rivers and groundwater supplies each household produces approximately 50kg of CO2 per year and if we heat our water we create a further 250kg of CO2.
Global warming and changing weather patterns mean that scarcity and cost are becoming more and more important to us.
How can I save water?
Changing the way we use water can be done in small steps. Here are a few ideas for you to try:
► Check home for leaks – if your home is metered you can check if there are any leaks by turning off all your taps, then take 2 meter readings within an hour of each other. If they differ you know that there must a leak.
► Turn the tap off when brushing your teeth.
► Fix any dripping taps
► Use only the water you need when boiling the kettle.
► Make sure you only turn on the washing machine or dishwasher when they are full.
► Use a water saving device in your cistern
