There are several museums in Camborne which provide an insight into the mining industry and the significant industrial advances that occurred here. Much of the original machinery that was used in the mining process are exhibited at both King Edward Mine and at East Pool Mine, with guided tours creating a fun yet educational experience.

Situated on the Great Flat Lode Trail, this mine and museum provides a fascinating insight into Camborne’s mining past.

This museum which is situated in Troon, specialises in the mining history of Cornwall. This museum is open April to September. The mill which was used to process the tin ore still contains much of the original machinery and guided tours are available to give a fascinating insight into the mine.
The museum is adjacent to the circular Great Flat Lode cycle/walking trail and is a useful start/end point for the trail as there is a large car park and toilets and information about the historic tramways.
Holmans of Camborne provided much of the machinery necessary for the mining industry both locally and worldwide and there is also an exhibition here of the unique equipment that this company created.

East Pool Mine

This mine is now Owned by the National Trust and has two great beam engines which were originally powered by high pressure steam and are preserved in their towering engine houses. There is also an Industrial Heritage Centre with interactive exhibits and working models. Along with a film about mining in Cornwall, this site provides a host of interesting educational activities that the whole family will enjoy. The site is open from April to October and can be found on Trevenson Street near Cornwall College.

Cornwall Council’s largest library of books and printed resources on Cornwall, the Cornish Studies Library in Redruth holds over 30,000 volumes covering Cornish history, geography, industries, customs and highlights Cornwall’s mining heritage.
